Frequently Asked Questions

I'm not a professional athlete. Is gait analysis still worth doing?
Absolutely. We work with everyone, from complete beginners to elite athletes. Whether you're just starting to run, getting back into it after time off, or dealing with niggling pain when you walk or run, gait analysis helps. Most people have movement inefficiencies they don't know about. Finding and fixing them means you can move better, feel better, and stay injury free.
What's the difference between a running analysis and a walking analysis?
They're similar but we look at different things. For walking, we assess how your feet contact the ground, your stride length, and posture during everyday movement. For running, we're looking at how your body handles the impact of repetitive footfalls, how efficiently you're moving, and whether you're compensating in ways that cause pain. Some people need both.
How does gait analysis actually work?
We watch you walk or run, often on a treadmill, so we can see your movement patterns clearly. We look at your foot strike, knee alignment, hip position, and how your whole body works together. We may also do some strength and flexibility tests to understand what's contributing to your movement pattern. It's straightforward and painless.
I've had running pain for months. Can gait analysis help?
Often yes. Chronic running or walking pain usually has a movement pattern behind it. By identifying what's causing it, we can retrain your technique and give you strategies to fix it. This might mean changing how you run, adjusting your shoes, strengthening certain muscles, or other targeted solutions. The goal is to get you running or walking pain free.
What happens after my analysis?
We'll give you a clear picture of what we found and a plan to improve. This might include technique changes, exercises to strengthen weak areas, footwear recommendations, or custom orthotics. We'll work with you to make sure the changes stick, so you're actually running and walking better long term.
